Propionylpromazine hydrochloride is an irreversible inhibitor of amyloid protein (APP) and a synergistic effector of benzalkonium chloride and trifluoroacetic acid. It inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which leads to the accumulation of acetylcholine in the brain and results in a variety of clinical effects such as paralysis, convulsions, and death. The drug has been used for the treatment of infectious diseases, including meningitis caused by Salmonella typhimurium. Propionylpromazine hydrochloride inhibits bacterial growth by binding to bacterial ribosomes and blocking protein synthesis. It also has been shown to bind to monoclonal antibodies with specificity for amyloid proteins. This drug can be used as a sample preparation solvent for immunoassay testing or electrochemical detection methods.
