2-Pyrazinecarboxylic acid 4-oxide is a molybdenum oxidant that has been used as an antiseptic and disinfectant. It is also used in medicine to treat infections caused by bacteria, such as urinary tract infections, or mycotic diseases, such as thrush. 2-Pyrazinecarboxylic acid 4-oxide has been shown to be active against some bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics due to its ability to kill bacteria by attacking the cell wall and destroying the enzymes necessary for metabolism. This compound is also used in the industrial production of vanadium oxide and other metal salts.
