It has been used in wastewater treatment because of its ability to remove metal ions from the water, which is due to its reactive nature. Propylene glycol diacetate is also a component of some glycol ethers, which are used as solvents for paints, adhesives, and printing inks. The reaction between propylene glycol diacetate and caproic acid yields a hydroxyl group, which is an important component of many organic compounds. This polymer forms intermolecular hydrogen bonds with fatty acids such as oleic acid.
