4-(4-Pyridinyl)thiazole-2-thiol is an organosulfur compound that has been used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is also known as pentachlorothiophenol, or pentachlorobenzenethiol. 4-(4-Pyridinyl)thiazole-2-thiol can be synthesized by the condensation of thiourea and 2-chloroacetophenone with phosphorus pentachloride. This reaction produces pyridine and 4-(4-pyridinyl)thiazole-2-thiol which are then reacted with sodium hydroxide to produce the desired product. This product has been used in the synthesis of various antibiotics, including ceftaroline.
