2,2,3,3,3-Pentafluoropropan-1-ol is a synthetic cannabinoid that has been found to be an active metabolite of the drug AB-FUBINACA. This compound is structurally similar to the cannabinoids THC and CBD. It binds to CB1 cannabinoid receptors in the brain and can cause euphoria and hallucinations. 2,2,3,3,3-Pentafluoropropan-1-ol is also an analytical method for detecting other synthetic cannabinoids in urine samples by FTIR spectroscopy. In this method, the sample preparation involves adding chlorine atom to convert any fluoroalkyl carboxylic acid esters into their corresponding chlorides.
