2-Phenylimidazole is an organic compound that contains nitrogen atoms and is a benzimidazole derivative. It can be synthesized from calcium stearate and hydrochloric acid in a reaction solution. The reaction mechanism of this molecule has been studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). 2-Phenylimidazole has been shown to react with nitric acid to generate the corresponding nitro compound, which is then oxidized by hydrogen peroxide to produce the corresponding hydroxyl group. The benzyl groups on the molecule coordinate to form a coordination complex and stabilizes it. This compound also has some properties of a dye, such as thermal expansion and nmr spectra.
