4-Phenoxyphenylacetonitrile is a magnetic chemical that is used in herbal products. It is also used to study the biological effects of tetrazole, a compound that has been found to be an effective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase (MAO). Magnetic resonance spectroscopy and x-ray crystallography have been used to investigate the structure of 4-phenoxyphenylacetonitrile. The enzyme hydrolysis of 4-phenoxyphenylacetonitrile has shown that it can be broken down by enzymes such as esterases or glucuronidases. It can also be eliminated from the body by cellular uptake and excretion through urine or bile. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy has shown that this molecule contains hydroxyl groups, nitro groups, and phenoxy groups.
