Z-L-phenylalanine-chloromethylketone (ZPCM) is a protease inhibitor that binds to basic proteins, preventing the breakdown of other proteins. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of trypsin, which is an enzyme that breaks down proteins in the digestive system. ZPCM also inhibits enzymes such as histidine and phenylalanine proteases, which have been shown to be involved in the progression of hepatitis. In addition, ZPCM has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties and may work by inhibiting autophagy.
