It is used as a precursor for the production of other chlorinated organic compounds. 2,3,4,5,6-Pentachlorobenzonitrile has been shown to be genotoxic in vitro test and in cell culture. The study also found that 2,3,4,5,6-pentachlorobenzonitrile binds to the receptor binding site on DNA and inhibits transcription. This chemical is also used as a pesticide where it acts as an insecticide and acaricide.
