3-(Piperidin-1-ylmethyl)aniline is an inhibitor of the muscle-type voltage-gated potassium channel. It is expressed in skeletal muscle and modulates the activity of these channels. 3-(Piperidin-1-ylmethyl)aniline has been shown to inhibit cell toxicity caused by azobenzene and ionizing radiation, as well as to inhibit the activity of a variety of ion channels. The selectivity of 3-(piperidin-1-ylmethyl)aniline for potassium channels is based on its ability to bind to a specific site on the channel protein that is distinct from other known blockers. Electrophysiological studies have demonstrated that 3-(piperidin-1-ylmethyl)aniline blocks currents through potassium channels with high affinity and modulates their activity in a reversible manner.
