2-Propanesulfonic acid sodium salt monohydrate is a solute that is used in the liquid chromatographic analysis of blood. It is an acid that has been found to be effective in the treatment of hypertension and angina pectoris, as well as for the prevention of thrombosis. 2-Propanesulfonic acid sodium salt monohydrate is also used in solvent systems for the preparation of drugs from animal tissues or natural products. The compound has been shown to inhibit human platelet aggregation, while being less cardiotoxic than verapamil. This can be attributed to its ability to inhibit phosphodiesterase activity by forming a complex with cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cGMP.
