It is a potent and selective agonist for the 5-HT1A receptor, and has been shown to have antidepressant activity in humans. 3-Phenylpyrrolidine has been shown to be effective in treating bladder hypertrophy, intestinal motility disorders, and prostatic hypertrophy. 3-Phenylpyrrolidine also inhibits dopamine release from rat brain slices and has affinity for 5-HT2A receptors.
