It can be used as a ligand for metal ions, such as Cu(II) and Fe(III). 3-(2-Pyridinyl)benzaldehyde is also used for the preparation of catalysts for organic reactions. In addition to these catalytic properties, 3-(2-pyridinyl)benzaldehyde is also an excellent transport molecule and has a high quantum efficiency in photochemical reactions. This product is enantiopure, meaning that it has only one chiral center. The molecular weight of this product ranges from 186.14 g/mol to 246.23 g/mol depending on whether it's synthesized using racemic or enantiopure starting materials. The yield varies between 60% and 80%.
