It prevents the activation of transient receptor potential channels, which are channels in the cell membrane that allow ions such as calcium and sodium to pass through. 5-Phenylisoxazole has been found to be a potent and selective inhibitor of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. This drug binds to anions on the surface of neurons and inhibits inflammation, preventing chronic pain. 5-Phenylisoxazole is also able to catalyze oriented polymerization reactions, which may have therapeutic implications for neurodegenerative diseases.
