It can be used for the preparation of polymers by copolymerization with other monomers. This compound can also be used to exchange ions from aqueous solutions using an ion-exchange resin. The protonated form of this compound has been found to be insoluble in most common solvents. Perfluoro-(4-methyl-3,6-dioxaoct-7-ene)sulfonyl fluoride has been shown to have high uptake after exposure to ionizing radiation, which may be due to its hydrophobic properties.
