Pipemidic acid trihydrate is a compound of the pyrazole ring and the carboxylic acid group. It has been used as an antimicrobial agent in clinical studies for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Pipemidic acid trihydrate is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and must be administered orally. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of cytokine production by mast cells and macrophages.
