4-Propoxyphenol is a reactive compound that has minimal toxicity. It is a plant phenolic compound that contains a hydroxyl group and an alkoxyphenol group. 4-Propoxyphenol reacts with solutes such as sodium chloride to form soluble complexes. It also reacts with hydrogen peroxide to form the hydroperoxide 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, which is oxidized to the corresponding carboxylic acid. 4-Propoxyphenol can be used in pharmacological studies because it has a redox potential of -0.6 V and can be used as an electron donor or acceptor in low energy experiments. This compound has been shown to have effects on mitochondrial membrane potential, cellular target, and cellular processes in triticum aestivum cells.
