It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of marine algal disease, cystoseira granulata. PCT is a phlorotannins that has been shown to have radical scavenging activities and potential use in the prevention of cancer. PCT can also be acetylated or hydroxybenzoic acid as well as other acetyl derivatives. It is soluble in trifluoroacetic acid and can be used for structural studies by gel permeation chromatography.
