Phenylmagnesium Chloride is a reagent that reacts with halides, hydrogen fluoride, hydrochloric acid, and organic compounds to form magnesium derivatives. It is a potent antagonist and can be used to study the reaction mechanism of certain enzymes. Phenylmagnesium Chloride is typically used as a catalyst in organic synthesis reactions, although it can also be used to prepare picolinic acid (a natural compound) from picolinic acid chloride or trifluoroacetic acid. Phenylmagnesium Chloride has been shown to have therapeutic properties in autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. In this condition, the body's own immune system attacks healthy cells in the brain and spinal cord. The drug can be administered orally or intravenously and works by blocking the production of chemicals that cause inflammation and damage nerves.
