Pafuramidine is a cyclic peptide that inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential in susceptible cells. This results in an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species, which leads to cell death. Pafuramidine has been shown to be effective against HIV infection and other infectious diseases. Pafuramidine also interacts with chemical inhibitors and antimicrobial agents, such as cytochrome p450 (CYP) enzymes.
