Potassium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (KHMDS) is a chemical reagent used in preparative high-performance liquid chromatography. It is used to form stable complexes with potassium, which are then separated by the column. KHMDS is also used in biochemical research and as an asymmetric synthesis catalyst. Potassium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide has been shown to inhibit enzymes that play a role in the transfer reactions of malonic acid, x-ray crystal structures, and asymmetric synthesis. The emphasis of this research has been on the mechanism of inhibition, structural analysis, and coordination geometry.
