(1R,2R,3S,5R)-(-)-2,3-Pinanediol is an inorganic acid that is used as a chemical intermediate. It has been shown to have antioxidant properties and can be used for the synthesis of boronic acids. (1R,2R,3S,5R)-(-)-2,3-Pinanediol has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in skin cells. This compound is synthesized from α-pinene using a two step process with asymmetric synthesis and hydroxylation. The resulting product is then esterified with hydrochloric acid to form the ester hydrochloride.
