Quinazoline-4-thiol (QTS) is a hydrogen chloride derivative that has been shown to be an effective antiviral agent. It interacts with the quinazoline ring in the active site of the enzyme, preventing it from interacting with other molecules. QTS also inhibits human liver epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is required for epidermal growth, and prevents the production of mycobacterium avium epidermal growth factor (MAF). This drug is also a potent inhibitor of chloride channels and can be used to treat infectious diseases and cancer. The hydroxy group on QTS can be replaced with an anthranilic acid group to give a more stable molecule, making it useful for long-term treatment. This drug has been shown to inhibit Mcl-1, Mcl-2 and Mcl-3 proteins involved in cancer cell proliferation.
