Descrição:QM 31 is a small molecule that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It is an analog of the natural compound caffeic acid, which has been shown to inhibit vascular leakage and improve blood flow to the retina. QM 31 is also a chemical inhibitor that targets caspase-9. This enzyme plays an important role in inflammation and apoptosis by cleaving other proteins. The protective effect of QM 31 on retinal cells was confirmed using primary cells from human eyes, which were grown in culture under conditions that simulate physiological conditions. QM 31 increased the transport rate of dye through cell membranes, suggesting a cytoprotective activity.
