Quinhydrone is a dark-red solid that belongs to the group of biochemical compounds. It has a particle size of 0.1-0.2 μm, with a melting point of 128°C. Quinhydrone reacts with sodium carbonate in water to form hydrogen gas and hydrochloric acid. The compound is also used as an analytical reagent, for example in the detection of colorectal carcinoma by immunohistochemistry. In biological studies, quinhydrone has been shown to have redox potentials that are similar to those found in human serum and can be used as a substitute for human serum in some experiments. This compound is also used in pharmaceutical preparations such as tablets and capsules.
