Sulforhodamine 101 sulfuryl chloride is a fluorescent dye used to detect protease activity in vitro. It has been shown to be useful for the detection of HIV infection. Sulforhodamine 101 sulfuryl chloride is a styryl dye that reacts with nitrogen atoms in proteins, which provides a sensitive and specific assay for protease activity. The dye binds to the amino groups of proteins and has been used extensively as a model system for studying HIV infection. It has also been used as an optical sensor for detecting transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products, and as a fluorescent reporter in enzyme assays.
