Sodium allopurinol is a drug that inhibits the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which is involved in the production of uric acid. It is used to control hyperuricemia and prevent the formation of urate crystals in joints and kidneys. Sodium allopurinol has been shown to have low bioavailability in humans and may be degraded by degradative enzymes, such as chloride or CDK4/6 inhibitor compounds. The effective dose for this drug ranges from 100-300mg per day, but must be monitored closely due to its toxicity on cellular structures.
