Silica, mesostructured - MSU-H (large pore 2D hexagonal) is a silica with a hexagonal pore structure. It has been shown to have antimicrobial properties that are independent of the material's surface chemistry, shape or size. This property is attributed to the ability of mesopores to adsorb water vapor and release it after exposure to the atmosphere. Silica, mesostructured - MSU-H (large pore 2D hexagonal) can be used in wastewater treatment by adsorbing organic matter and other contaminants from water. The synthesis process can be controlled by varying the reaction solution composition, which will affect the final product characteristics such as water vapor capture capacity and mechanical strength. Silica, mesostructured - MSU-H (large pore 2D hexagonal) is also an effective scavenger for oxygen radicals and reactive oxygen species such as singlet molecular oxygen.
