Spermine bis(nitric oxide) adduct is a reactive molecule with potential as a pharmacological agent. It has been shown to induce neuronal death in wild-type mice, and to potentiate the effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Spermine bis(nitric oxide) adduct can also promote oxidative injury by inhibiting mitochondrial membrane potential, leading to cytosolic Ca2+ overload and cyclase inhibition. The use of this drug may be limited by its adverse effects on pluripotent cells.
