- Sulfamethazine
Sulfadimidine is a sulfonamide antibiotic that has been used in the treatment of infectious diseases, such as cholera and typhoid fever. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase and blocks bacterial synthesis of folic acid, thereby inhibiting DNA synthesis. Sulfadimidine is also known to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase and succinylcholine esterase, which may be due to its ability to form covalent bonds with amino groups. These properties have led to the use of sulfadimidine in analytical methods for determining matrix effects and rate constants. In addition, sulfadimidine has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of tetracycline resistance in bacteria by binding to the ribosomal protein L2. Sulfamethazine, another sulfonamide drug, has been found to inhibit the activity of human immunoglobulin G (IgG)
