Sulfosulfuron is a sulfonylurea herbicide that is used for weed control in agriculture and horticulture. It inhibits the growth of plants by inhibiting photosynthetic activity, which blocks the synthesis of chlorophyll. Sulfosulfuron has been demonstrated to be effective against a range of bacterial strains, including some resistant to other herbicides. This compound is also used as an insecticide on crops such as solanum tuberosum and ophiopogon japonicus. The biological properties of sulfosulfuron are well documented with many studies demonstrating its efficacy against weeds and insects. Studies have shown that exposure to this compound can cause chronic health effects in mammals, such as decreased weight gain, increased cholesterol levels and increased liver weights. These effects may be due to its ability to bind cationic surfactants in the gastrointestinal tract, leading to alterations in gut motility.
