Sodium anthraquinone-1-sulfonate has been shown to have the ability to react with water vapor, forming hydrogen sulfide gas and nitrogen dioxide. The reaction solution also contains metal hydroxides such as sodium carbonate, which can produce receptor activity. This substance has been used as a probiotic in the treatment of skin cancer and pge2 levels in the liver. It has also been shown to have physiological effects on the liver, such as lesions.
