Sodium 3-fluorobenzoate is a colorless, odorless, and water-soluble solid. It is a member of the carboxylic acid class and has three fluorine substituents. It is soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, ethers, chloroform, benzene and other organic solvents. Sodium 3-fluorobenzoate can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis or as a reagent in the manufacture of other compounds such as pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to have some potential as a drug for cancer treatment due to its ability to inhibit cell proliferation by blocking DNA synthesis.
