Trifluoroacetic acid is a trifluoromethyl-containing compound that has been used in the synthesis of organic molecules. It can be synthesized by the reaction of trimodal with an excess of sodium tetrafluorobenzoate. Trimodal is an organic ligand that can be used to bind to metal ions and increase their solubility in water. The luminescence properties of trimodal have been studied extensively, with the results showing that it emits light in the visible region at 447 nm and 526 nm, depending on the excitation wavelength. Trimodal crystals are cubic and belong to space group P212121 or P212221, depending on their symmetry. The crystal system for this substance is trigonal, which means that all three axes are equivalent and perpendicular to each other.
