Sutherlandiosid D is a natural product that belongs to the group of flavonoids. It is found in tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum) and has been shown to have strong antioxidant properties. Sutherlandiosid D can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent, with possible applications in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, and other diseases. The biological activity of this compound has been demonstrated by an assay measuring IL-10 production in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. This compound has also been shown to have anti-cancer effects through inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis in human tumor cells. Sutherlandiosid D is classified as a glycoside derivative and its chemical structure was determined using 2D NMR spectroscopy.
