Tetrabromohydroquinone is a polymeric matrix that is used for the extraction of fatty acids from biological samples. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, with mcf-7 cells being most sensitive to its inhibitory effects. Tetrabromohydroquinone also inhibits the light emission of mcf-7 cells, which may be due to its ability to reduce the levels of fatty acid ethyl esters. This compound has been applied as a light-emitting element in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).
