• Descrição: Triethyl orthoformate is a coumarin derivative that has been used as an antimicrobial agent in vitro. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus) and fungi (e.g., Candida albicans). Treatment with triethyl orthoformate also results in a decrease in platelet aggregation, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme p-nitrophenyl phosphate. This compound was also shown to reduce the incidence of congestive heart failure in rats by increasing cardiac output, resulting from enhanced contractility of the heart muscle cells. The mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it may be due to its ability to increase intracellular levels of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), which can lead to increased cell membrane permeability and decreased intrace
