Trichloroacetamide (TCA) is a colorless, crystalline solid. TCA has ferroelectric properties and is used in analytical chemistry. It is soluble in water and hydrochloric acid. TCA may be used to prepare samples for chromatographic analysis. TCA has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may act by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins or leukotrienes. TCA also shows some therapeutic potential as an anticancer drug because it inhibits the growth of cancer cells. The phase transition temperature for this compound is between -100°C and -30°C. Trichloroacetamide can form benzyl groups through nucleophilic substitution during metabolism.
