Trifluoroacetophenone (TFAP) is an organic compound that has a piperidinium group. TFAP is prepared by the reaction of trifluoroacetic acid with piperidine. It is used as a fluorescence probe for the detection of amines, such as histamine, in biological samples. This compound also has been shown to be a potent enzyme inhibitor and can be used to synthesize esters with different linkages. Trifluoroacetophenone is used in asymmetric synthesis and it has been shown to react with intramolecular hydrogen to form sodium trifluoroacetate.
