Triethylene glycol mono methyl ether tosylate (TEM) is a fluorescent probe that can be used as a nitrite indicator. TEM is soluble in water and can be used for the detection of hydrogen sulfide, which has been shown to have a high selectivity for diboron. TEM reacts with sulfides in the presence of an acid to form a fluorescent product. TEM is hydrolyzed by tert-butyl hydroperoxide, forming an alcohol and an ester. The molecular formula for triethylene glycol mono methyl ether tosylate is C10H21O4S2.
