N-(Trimethylsilylmethyl)benzylamine is an aldehyde that can be used as a ligand in coordination chemistry. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in cells, which may be due to its ability to react with amines and electrophiles. N-(Trimethylsilylmethyl)benzylamine has also shown potential to be an effective antiviral drug against the pandemic covid-19 virus, which is resistant to most currently available antiviral drugs. The conformational change induced by N-(Trimethylsilylmethyl)benzylamine may cause the formation of an electron-deficient species, which could serve as a potential mechanism for this compound's antiviral activity.
