(3E,8Z,11Z)-3,8,11-Tetradecatrien-1-yl acetate is one of the most effective insect pheromones discovered so far. It has been shown to be a highly attractive pheromone in both males and females of many different species of pests. The synthesis of (3E,8Z,11Z)-3,8,11-tetradecatrien-1-yl acetate involves the addition of an acetate group to tetradecadienal followed by hydrogenation and removal of the double bonds in the resulting product.
