2,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-1H-indeno[5,4-b]furan-8-ylethylamine is an important intermediate in the production of polyurethanes. This product has been produced industrially by hydrogenation of 2,6,7,8-tetrahydroindeno[5,4-b]furan with borohydride and an organic solvent. The process can be controlled easily by adjusting the reaction temperature and pressure. Hydrogenation is a reversible reaction that produces a hydrogenation product as well as byproducts.
