Tetrakis(butoxyethoxy)silane is a reactive cross-linker that can be used to introduce the fluorine group onto polydimethylsiloxane. It is a non-polar, hydrophobic molecule that has been shown to react with surfaces such as glass and silicon. Tetrakis(butoxyethoxy)silane has high reactivity and is able to form covalent bonds with many substrates. This compound is also stable in air, making it suitable for use in fabricating medical devices. The skeleton of the polymer can be modified by applying heat or light, which changes its surface properties. The chemical structure of this compound is similar to that of polydimethylsiloxane, but it contains an additional hydrophobic group which inhibits the adhesion of water molecules on the surface.
