1-(2-Tetrahydrofuroyl)piperazine hydrobromide is a ligand that has affinity for adrenergic receptors. It can be used to study the role of these receptors in cholesterol synthesis and other biological processes. 1-(2-Tetrahydrofuroyl)piperazine hydrobromide has been shown to inhibit histamine H1 receptor binding and cAMP accumulation in transgenic mice with a mutant, beta-adrenergic receptor. This drug also has been shown to have antihypertensive effects in rats and rabbits, as well as improving locomotor activity in rats. It has been found to have no effect on nucleic acid probes, which may be due to its low solubility in water.
