1,2,4,5-Tetrachloro-3,6-dimethoxybenzene is a polychlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon that is used as an environmental pollutant. It was detected in the soil of Prosopis cineraria and Phellinus linteus from the city of Nairobi. This compound is biosynthesized by Basidiomycetes such as Rhizoctonia sp., Phellinus linteus and Diplodia sp. 1,2,4,5-Tetrachloro-3,6-dimethoxybenzene is also used as a precursor for tetrachlorohydroquinone (PCC) that is produced by chlorination of diacetate extract.
