The solubility of 1,2-dimethyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine in water is low but it reacts readily with betaines to form soluble products. Diffraction data for this compound have been taken at a wavelength of 0.734 nm and show a single crystal structure with a unit cell parameter of a = 10.9 Å and b = 12.0 Å
