Tetraethylene glycol monoamine is a liquid that is used in coatings, as a fluorescence agent, and as a diagnostic tool. Tetraethylene glycol monoamine has a hydrocarbon group with four carbon atoms and one nitrogen atom. This compound is an electron donor, which means it can donate electrons to other molecules. Fluorescein tetraethylene glycol monoamine is used in the diagnosis of influenza because it reacts with the virus to form a fluorescent product. Tetraethylene glycol monoamine has been used as a supramolecular probe for biosensors and for monolayer experiments on viruses. The hydrophobic effect causes this molecule to be soluble in nonpolar solvents such as hexane and benzene. It also has high electronegativity because of its nonpolarity, which makes it more reactive than molecules with polar bonds.
