It is resistant to oxidation and has been shown to be an effective stabilizer for polystyrene. The product yield of 4,4'-thiobis(6-tert-butyl-o-cresol) increases with reaction time and exhibits synergistic effects with styrene and zirconium oxide. The infrared spectroscopy of this compound indicates it contains phenolic antioxidants and ethylene.
