Tamoxifen is a drug with estrogen receptor modulator activity and is used in the treatment of hormone-sensitive breast cancer. Tamoxifen is an antiestrogen and blocks the action of estrogen in breast tissue, where it prevents the development of breast cancer. Tamoxifen also has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and reduce symptoms of gynecological cancers such as uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, and metastatic breast cancer. It does this by inhibiting the production of insulin-like growth factor (IGF), which stimulates cell division. Tamoxifen also inhibits tumor growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and preventing transcription and replication. The active form of tamoxifen is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase or conjugation with glucuronic
